Principal Julie Bernauer has been visiting Door County for more than 50 years. Today, their family owns both a home in Sister Bay and a condominium in Ephraim — two communities that perfectly capture the peninsula's balance of energy and tranquility.

"We love Door County because of its natural beauty and being able to totally unwind once you cross the county line. The art scene is vibrant and inspiring, and I love the Scandinavian vibe, as a Scandinavian myself. The air just seems different there."

But even with two homes, she admits it never feels quite enough. "We try to get up there at least once a month — but we'd always take more time in Door County if we could."

Her family’s ideal Door County weekend is wonderfully simple: hiking through Peninsula State Park or Ellison Bluff County Park, exploring Edgewood Orchard Galleries, Reclaimed, Hill Shop or SKÅL, followed by dinner at Chives, Pearl Wine Cottage, Bad Moravian or the iconic Al Johnson's before finishing the evening with ice cream from Door County Creamery.

Principals Trey + Shelly Sprinkman found their own version of Door County living just outside Fish Creek. "We really wanted a private setting that was still close to both the lake and the bayside villages," Trey continues.

When asked how often they visit? "As much as we can," Trey says with a smile.
